Sydney, Nov 14(ANI): James Pattinson has the ability and the right aggression to spearhead Australia’s fast bowling attack in coming years, according to senior cricket writer, Robert Craddock.
“Playing the aggro card in Test cricket can be a dangerous game. It can be a cringing sight watching a young fast bowler try and verbally assert himself when he lacks the ability or credentials to do so,” Craddock wrote in his column for News.com.au.
“They can get quickly exposed and the fallout is often severe. But indications are James Pattinson has the ability and is slowly getting the credentials. Test cricket is nothing without the type of bare-knuckled exchange between Graeme Smith and James Pattinson,” he added.
“Pattinson cursed Smith and stared at him and the South African skipper at one point waved him away but the youngster got his man when Smith skewed to slips,” he further wrote.
Craddock further added: “This is a brave path for Pattinson to tread but the Australian attack needs a top-class spearhead, someone who can be anchored in as the main man and around which the others are chosen.”
“Peter Siddle is almost there but with a Test average of 30 per wicket he is a rung short of being an A Grade enforcer,” he wrote.
“Pattinson is pacey, aggressive and promising in every way. The baton handled by the likes of Lillee, Thomson, Lawson, McDermott, McGrath and Lee may fall to him sooner than he thinks. Perhaps he has it already,” he concluded. (ANI)
