Shimla, Oct 27 () : Despite allegation of corruption charges, BJP president Nitin Gadkari who has been permitted to continue in the office, left to Himachal Pradesh today for his scheduled election campaign for the upcoming elections scheduled next month.
Mr Gadkari who left Nagpur and reached Delhi on Friday, had a confidential meeting with the BJP leaders including LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.“All the BJP members will support Gadkari,” said Prakash Javadekar to reporters.
He also said that Gadkari never said he would resign. Gadkari was admired by the BJP members for voluntarily asking for enquiry, said Javedkar. Due to the recent allegations of financial misdeeds in his business Nitin Gadkari has been little upset, even though the party members gave the courage to support him in his hour of need.
As far as the BJP is concerned, if Gadkari is expelled at a juncture when the forthcoming elections are coming closer, that would probably give a sense of guilt and even divert voters in the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat elections. It will not be appropriate to select a new president at this crucial period when the elections are in the pipeline, said sources from the BJP.
Meanwhile, the probability for a possible second term is appearing little grey for Gadkari even if the party leaders are willing him to continue as party president.
Though the parental body of the BJP earlier supported Gadkari, later started receding from the controversy to a large extent, who said, ” It has been a practice with the RSS that anyone who is involved in any illegal activity would undergo neutral probe,”said the RSS in a statement.
It is believed that the RSS is demanding a clarification from Nitin Gadkari on the alleged misdeed of funding in his business, said sources.
