Mumbai, Oct 23 (): The much-hyped movie starring newcomers like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra in leads has garnered Rs 28.5 crores nett at domestic box office centres in its opening weekend. With a good opening business, Dharma Productions has recorded a hat trick success in the year 2012.
As per reports given by Box office capsule, the movie collected 8.50 cr on Friday, 9.50 cr on Saturday and 10.50 cr on Sunday. So, the total domestic collections rounded up to 28.5 cr in its opening weekend.
Director Karan Johar’s vast promotional activities, new stars Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt’s sincere performances, have played its role very well in the opening collection figures.
SOTY released in over 1,400 screens on October 19 and showed an overpowering response with 100% occupancy in both multiplexes and single screens on the first day of its release. The movie did well in metros and multiplexes across the country. The opening day collection was larger than expected. Positive words about the movie played magic and made its collection shoot upwards on Saturday and Sunday.
In spite of SOTY featuring all debutant actors in leads, the movie has given an overwhelming performance at Box Office. The filmmaker, Karan Johar did huge promotions for his movie and the movie also garnered positive words from film analysts.
The promos created curiosity and also as this weekend is coupled with Pooja holidays, the movie witnessed an excellent pace in pre-ticket bookings.
Trade analysts say the movie will rock at Box Office on weekdays as well as all schools, companies and offices will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Pooja holidays. They predict the movie will touch the Rs 60 crore mark at domestic Box Office in the first week. After Agneepath, Student Of The Year is likely to be Karan Johar’s second 100- crore movie in 2012.
