Illegal granite quarrying: Court issues non-bailable warrant against Durai Dayanidhi

Madurai, Oct 16 (TruthDive): Union Minister M.K Alagiri’s son Durai Dayanidhi had been issued a non-bailable warrant by the Melur court in Madurai in the alleged multi-crore illegal granite quarrying scam.

Justice Jayakumar of the Melur court issued the warrant based on a request made by the Madurai police to arrest Durai Dayanidhi who is the grandson of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi.

The order was issued after the accused was denied an anticipatory bail, by the Madras High Court following a raid by the police in his residence as well as his office in Chennai. The police also interrogated relatives of Durai Dayanidhi after probing his wife in connection with the case.

The accused had been absconding avoiding arrest as soon as a FIR was registered in the multi-crore scandal worth Rs 16, 000 crore.  Sources said it is most likely Union minister MK Alagiri is now expected to approach the Supreme Court to seek an anticipatory bail for his son in the case.

With a look out circular (LOC) issued to the immigration officials of the airports in the city, it will be quite difficult for Alagiri to make his son flee the country, said sources. Efforts have also been taken to seize the passport of the accused after informing the concerned authorities to keep an eye on the accused from fleeing the country.

Meanwhile the DMK who had been maintaining silence on the prevailing controversy demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged scam by claiming the allegations to be a political revenge by the ruling AIADMK.

When asked by the reporters about Durai Dayanidhi’s whereabouts, DMK chief M Karunanidhi said that he is not aware of the ongoing issue.

“I am not aware why he is hiding and don’t know his whereabouts. It is the work of the ruling government who had been filing cases against the DMK party members. We should have trust in the judicial procedure of the country,” said the DMK chief.
