Mumbai, Oct 3 (TruthDive): The third edition of Global Indian Music Awards (GiMA) was a grand affair with presence of a huge crowd of film and music fraternity, at Yash Raj Studios, in Mumbai.
The ceremony was hosted by Parineeti Chopra and Saif Ali Khan. The event had electrifying performances by notable Bollywood stars and musicians including Shankar Mahadevan, his sons – Siddarth and Shivam, Sonu Niigaam, Sukhwinder, Sonkashi Sinha with Mika and others.
A special performance was dedicated to AR Rahman, musical maestro for his 20 years completion in the film industry; Yash Chopra felicitated AR Rahman.
On the special tribute at the occasion, AR Rahman said that he was hinted out about the tribute but he didn’t realize that this would create such a big reminiscence. He said that he had learnt a lot from all the singers who had touched his heart in the event’s performances.
He still remembered the day of his first concert in 1996 when most of the singers who sang in the event, came to watch him. He was really thankful to GiMA for this. He said in emotions that he was truly touched by their tribute.
Famous singers like Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Mohit Chauhan, Naresh Iyer, Sonu Niigaam, Chitra all came together to honour the music legend with heart-warming performance to his hits like “Tu Hi Re”, “Dil Hai Chota Sa”, “Chanda Re Chande Re”, “Mehndi Hai Rachne Wali”, “Mitwa”, “Ru Ba Ru”, “Sadda Haq”, “Saathiya” and “Jai Ho”.
Rockstar received 6 GiMA Awards leading in the Film category. GiMA 2012 gave 10 awards in the Film Category and 12 awards in the Non-film category.
Lifetime achievement award was given to Shrimati Girija Devi, while the ‘Global Indian Musician Award’ was given to Pandit Jasraj.
Sonakshi Sinha fascinated the spectators with her energy act for her hit songs like “Chinta Ta”, “Go Go Govind” and her forthcoming movie ‘Son of Sardar’. Ajay Devgn also joined her to groove on the title song of ‘Son of Sardar’.
This is the third edition of GiMA awards, which is a platform to identify the indigenous talent and lend global recognition to some of the best Indian music and musicians across genres.
