Mumbai, Oct 2 (): Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starring movie OMG Oh My God has topped the Indian box office collection chart surpassing Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal (KDM) in its first weekend. KDM has taken the third place with Barfi taking the second position.
OMG had a poor start on its opening day (September 28) collecting just 3.75 – 4 cr nett, but the business picked up over the weekend, raking in 16.7 crore.
The occupancy on the opening day was very poor with just 30%-40%, but the weekend collections is considered to be decent due to the positive feedback the movie received over the weekend. The business rose up on Saturday and Sunday. But, still the movie is facing competition with Barfi, the recently released, two week old Ranbir Kapoor’s movie, which is still rocking at the box office, Ganesh Visarjan festival and the two critical cricket World Cup T20 matches involving India. These were the reasons which took away the audience away.
In the overseas market, the movie has made 2 crores in its first weekend. So, the total worldwide collection now stands at 18.70 crores.
The movie has good hope on Tuesday, as it is a national holiday in India due to Gandhi Jayanti. Predictions say the movie will remain strong during weekdays and it should add another 12-13 crores in the next 4 days of the week. The first week collection should be around 28-30 crores.
Whereas, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal had poor collections from its opening day. It collected just Rs 1.25 crore at the domestic box office and it did not see any big leap on Saturday. Now, the movie had completed its first weekend with just collecting around 4.5 crore. This medium budget movie needs to do well on the weekdays to recover its production cost.
However, Barfi raked in Rs 6.1 crore in the third weekend, thereby taking the second place in the collection chart.
