Ranchi, Aug 8 (TruthDive): Young women in Jharkhand went into a state of panic and shock, after three posters by a newly-created group, Jharkhand Mukti Sangh threatened them with dire consequences if they were seen sporting jeans and T-shirts or not wearing a dupatta. The posters said that this rule will come into force after August 20.
Since wearing jeans is considered to be one of the most common attires for young women these days, they seemed to be quite shaky after the warning. The students of women’s college were terribly upset with the warning given. “Why these people are against wearing jeans. We feel quite comfortable in this dress. Now we will have to think twice before slipping our legs into the pair,” said the students.
Some girls were least bothered about the warning and were not too sure about the seriousness of the threat. “We shall continue as usual with what we had been wearing, but we shall be careful also at the same time. We have faith in the police who will rescue us from the culprits,” said student’s of St Xavier’s College.
Some parents have restricted their daughters from wearing jeans after the warning given through the poster as they felt that safety is more important than getting into any problem. The posters have created panic among college authorities, too. A college principal said “Wearing indecent clothes is indeed not appropriate, but I don’t think there is a problem if girls wear jeans. It is really causing distress if the miscreants are trying to create fear.”
According to some boys,“Girls these days are exposing a lot. I would support such diktat, but the group should not harm any girl by throwing acid on them. Above all wearing jeans and T-shirts are against Indian culture, which we fail to follow. Boys indulge in criminal activities due to such exposures,” said Ajay, a college student.
A senior police officer said that police however are trying to trace the people involved and hope to be apprehended soon.
