SIIMA Awards 2012: A look back at winners

Chennai, July 20 (): The star-studded South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2012 was held in Dubai on June 21 and 22. The event is the first of its kind organised exclusively for the South Indian movies.

SIIMA’s aim is to honour the South Indian artists and to spread the pride of South Indian movies to international viewers.

The grand event was attended by many celebrities from four South Indian film industries including Shruti Haasan, Asin, Shriya Saran, Trisha, Sameera Reddy, Vikram, Rana Dagubbati, Dhanush, Aishwarya Rajnikanth, Diganth, Lakshmi Rai, Charmee, Andrita Ray, Richa Gangopadhyay, Ambarish, Sumalatha, Ajmal, Sarath Rajkumar, Namitha, Madhavan, Kushboo, Lakshmi Manchu, Manoj Manchu, Amala Paul, Puneet Rajkumar and Simbu. Bollywood celebrities Boney Kapoor, Sridevi and Sohail Khan were also present.

A fashion show was also held as a part of the awards ceremony, and the ceremony was hosted by Actor Madhavan, actresses Lakshmi Manchu and Parvathy Omanakuttan (Miss India World 2008).

The awards were given for 19 categories for all the four language films.

Best Actress: Asin (Kavalan)
Best Actor (Special Jury Award): Vikram (Deiva Thirumagal)
Best Actress (Special Jury Award): Richa Gangopadhyay (Mayakkam Enna)
Best Debutant (Male): Sharvanand (Engeyum Eppothum)
Best Debutant (Female): Hansika Motwani (Maapillai)
Best Director: Vetrimaran (Aadukalam)
Best Debutant Director: M Saravanam (Engeyum Eppodhum)
Best Actor in Negative Role: Ajmal(Ko)
Best Actor in Supporting Role: Sarath Kumar( Kanchana)
Best Cinematographer: R Velraj (Aadukalam)
Best Music Director: GV Prakash(Aadukalam)
Best Lyricist: Na Muthu Kumar for Un Pera Theriyanthe ( Engeyum Eppothum)
Best Playback Singer(Male): Dhanush for Voda Voda ( Mayakkam Enna)
Best Playback Singer(Female): Chinmayi for Sara Sara (Vaagaisoodva)
Best Film: Ko for Eired Kumar, Jayaraman (RS Infotainment)
Best Comedian: Santhanam for Vaanam

The Next Gen awards were awarded to the young artists of South Indian Film Industry who have left a mark nationally.

Sensation of South Indian Cinema: Action Choreographer- Peter Hain
