London, Jun 17 (): Bollywood actor-couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan are all set to support a diabetes charity. In London, they attended the 25th anniversary parties of the Britain’s longest serving MP of Indian origin, Keith Vaz. The pair would also attend a dinner party in support of Leicester-based charity Silver Star and would raise funds for the 4th mobile diabetes unit which would be based in Mumbai.
The mobile diabetes unit will be named after Amitabh, who is the charity’s international patron and will hand over to the unit to Amitabh on October 11, his birthday. Keith Vaz founded the charity who himself has type 2 diabetes.
Keith Vaz decided to dedicate his 25th anniversary to the source of diabetes which now is a increasing global epidemic. In UK, 3.4 million people suffer from diabetes and nearly 24,000 people pass away prematurely every year from the related causes.
In India, more than 61 million people suffer from the same condition. 983,000 people died from related problems last year. Estimations say by 2030, over 100 million Indians will have the disease.
Vaz said he was very excited to host Bollywood’s special couple Aishwarya and Abhishek for such a distinctive occasion. He was delighted about the Bachchan family taking part in such a valuable cause.
When concerning type-2 diabetic, the task of Silver Star is raising awareness about the disorder. The condition of the disorder is of vital importance, as 8 out of 10 cases of type 2 diabetes can be avoided with the right care and lifestyle.
Vaz added he could think of no other better ways to mark his 25 years in Parliament, than by serving our community overcome diabetes epidemic.
