Hockey Junior Asia Cup: India – Malaysia, Pakistan – South Korea in semi-finals

Malacca, May 8 (TruthDive): India beat China 2-1 in a tough match to enter the semifinals of the seventh Junior Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Tournament held at MBM Hockey Stadium here on Monday. Indian Naveen Antil scored the first goal at 19th min and Amit Rohidas scored the deciding goal at 57th min for India. The Chinese goal came in 47th minute by winger Yu Xin.

Needing a win to top the table, Indian had a stiff resistance from Chinese. At the start of the game India took a very long time to settle down. The winger Naveen Antil with excellent field goal gave the Indians 1-0 lead at the 19th minute. With stiff offensive after the goal India kept Chinese under control to lead 1-0 at half time.

Chinese Yu Xin turned Zhang Zhixuan’s hit to the goal and equalized and brought the match alive. Due to poor finish in the circle Indians wasted a lot of chances. Indian vice-captain Amit Rohidas converted the match winning goal in 57th minute through a penalty corner. Sushant Tirkey, the Indian goal keeper made crucial saves in the end of the Chinese pressure to equalize.

In the other match, Pakistan trounced Sri Lanka 14-0 to enter the semifinals. Pakistan scored eight goals in the first half and netted six goals in the second half. Tousiq (6th min),(10th min), Jaffar (16th min), Dilber (17th min), Suleman (23rd min), Dilber (25th min), Bhutta (33rd min), Ali Shan (35th min) were the scorers during the first half. Bhutta (38th min), Irfan (44th min), Bhutta (44th min), Ali Shan (60th min) and Bhutta (69th min) were the scorers in the second half.

In the semi finals Pakistan will meet South Korea and India will meet Malaysia on Thursday. Earlier India drew with Pakistan 2-2 in the pool match on Sunday. India beat Sri Lanka 11-0 in the pool match.
