Patna, Oct 30 (ANI): A group of Muslim women gathered themselves to clean the river banks in Patna ahead of Chhath puja which is going to be celebrated on November 1 and 2.
This festival is significant for married women, who observe fast for two days and pray standing waist-deep in water for at least two hours and offer fruits and flowers to Surya, the Sun God for the health and prosperity of their families.
Mumtaz Jahan, one of the women, who cleaned the banks said the gesture spreads the message of communal harmony.
“On the occasion of Chhath Puja we have formed a committee of more than 50 Muslim women who go every bank and clean it for the Hindu women who fast on the festival. We thoroughly clean all the banks so that no pebble pricks the Hindu devotees. This gesture sends a message of Hindu-Muslim unity to the society.
By doing this we also send the message that we respect other religions as well,” said Jahan.
The festival is celebrated on the sixth and seventh days after Diwali. (ANI)
