Dhoni celebrated Diwali with wife and family in Ranchi

Ranchi, Oct 28 (TruthDive): Indian cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni with wife Sakshi came to Ranchi on Wednesday evening to celebrate Diwali with his family.

After mauling England by 95 runs in the fifth and last ODI of the series for a 5-0 whitewash, a beaming Indian skipper MS Dhoni on Tuesday wished ‘Happy Diwali’ to his countrymen.

“I extend my best wishes to everyone for Diwali,” Dhoni said in the media conference after the Eden Gardens match. Dhoni said he would go to Ranchi for a day to spend Diwali with his family.

The Indian team has been given a day’s holiday for Diwali. The players would leave for their home on Wednesday morning and return here on Thursday evening for the October 29 Twenty20 outing against England.

Dressed in a pair of denims and a Superman tee, Captain Cool was the true blue Superman for his fans when he landed at the airport after Team India’s 5-0 whitewash of England in the ODI tournament. He and his wife Sakshi were greeted by fans at the Birsda Munda Airport when he flew in from Kolkata.

The first thing Dhoni did after going home is to check out his pad with his niece. The house was beautifully done up with lights. Sources said this was Dhoni’s first visit to his newly renovated house during Diwali.

Though Dhoni has tasted various kinds of cuisine across the world, it is his mother’s gajar ka halwa that he craves for. While sharing notes with his family and pampering his pet dogs (Zara and Pam), his mother offered him gajar ka halwa.

In the evening, his childhood friends came home to congratulate him on his win and wish him a happy Diwali. Once he had spent time with his childhood buddies, he was joined by his family members. Right from brother-in-law Gautam Gupta to sister Jayanti, his parents and elder brother Narendra, everyone joined him for the Lakshmi Puja at home. After the Puja got over, he came to the terrace to light some sparklers.

On Thursday morning, Dhoni paid a visit to the Dyodhi temple. Accompanied by friend Chiku and brother-in-law Gautam, Dhoni reached the temple around 12.30 pm. Kali Puja is celebrated with a lot of fanfare at this temple. It was such an auspicious occasion for Dhoni to come down now. He prayed for 10 minutes and along with his brother-in-law, Dhoni also donated money to the poor.

By Thursday evening, he left for Kolkata along with wife Sakshi well ahead of Saturday’s T20 match against England.
