Soon, drivers to become ‘friends’ with cars on Toyota social networking site

London, May 24 (ANI): Toyota Motor is developing a new social networking service for motorists that will enable drivers become “friends” with their cars and provide “tweets” about maintenance checks.

The Japanese carmaker has joined forces with Salesforce.com, a US cloud computing firm, to create the private social networking service called “Toyota Friend” for drivers, reports the Telegraph.

“Social networking services are transforming human interaction and modes of communication. The automobile needs to evolve in step with that transformation,” said, Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, who unveiled the new project.

From a reminder to recharge a depleting electric battery to giving street directions, the car will be able to send a range of messages directly to devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs and other mobile devices.

In a further innovation, drivers will be able to have basic two-way conversations with their car, which will be bestowed with its own individual profile as part of the new social networking project.

Customers will also be able to extend the private Toyota Friend network to include their friends and families via public social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

The service will be first unveiled in Japan next year. (ANI)
